Happy Tails!

Andy, Lucy and Big Brother Damien

We call this photo “What would your Grandmas think?” because our parents were of a generation where cats were cats – seldom in the house, let alone on the table! But we also like this photo as it shows how happily our two Action for Animals kitties have integrated into our household.
When we lost our dear Kismet to a stroke last December, we missed her terribly. And our remaining cat, Damian, was very lonely. He’d loved Kismet (she had not really returned the feeling!) and we decided we needed to try to find a young playful female to give Damian the playmate he’d always wanted. Problem was, when we came to Action for Animals, Barry and I both fell in love – but with different kittens! After some soul searching and with more than a little trepidation, we decided to adopt both Lucy, the dilute tortie, and Andromedos (Andy), the ginger tabby. To our surprise, Damian was eager to meet them, and as soon as we brought them together, he and Lucy became playmates. Although he sometimes finds kittens a bit overwhelming, he enjoys wrestling and playing “chase me” with them and is always very gentle.
As for Lucy and Andy – they are everything we could ask for: playful, happy, affectionate – and beautiful. We love them very much and are so happy we decided to invite both of them into our family. Thanks, Nikki!

"SIMBA"

I
would like to let you all know how much we have enjoyed having Simba in our
home. In May of last year (2006), I responded to Nikki's ad in a local
newspaper. We then met Nikki and also met Simba at her home. I fell in love
with Simba as soon as I saw him. He was an abandoned two-month old kitten with
three other kittens with him. The union of Simba and our other young female cat,
Mocha, was just what I had expected - hissing and growling and slapping, all
from Mocha. But Nikki told me it would smooth over and she was right. So now it
is a year since we adopted him and they are good friends. They don't curl
up together for a nap (as yet, and maybe they never will), but they lick the top
of each other's head sometimes. That is sooo cute! They also chase one another
around the home, which is quite entertaining.
Simba is an adorable little boy. He is very affectionate, and he
loves to get up onto anyone's lap and rub his face on theirs. He
sleeps by my side at night. My husband, Daniel, really loves his personality,
which is very spunky, lively and sociable. When we have company over, he wants
to be part of the scene. He does, however, have a few annoying habits, such as
chewing wicker, jumping up on the kitchen countertops and table, which I don't
allow, and shredding and unraveling the toilet paper roll (now I have a special
cover over it). He does all of these things to get our attention, and it works.
So I started training him by means of spraying water at him, but it turns out
that he likes that, so it has no effect. So now I just scold him and that
seems to work...for a short time. But other than these few behavioral
problems, he is a really nice kitty and we have not one regret in our
decision to adopt him. Thank you, Nikki, for your help in the beginning, because
we had some very minor health issues to deal with, and you were so patient
with us. I would definitely recommend Action For Animals to friends
who are interested in adopting cats or dogs, because many of these
unfortunate animals are in need of loving homes.
Thanks again,
Daniel & Rosslyn

Athena
I adopted Sage from you almost 1 and a half years ago. You were very hesitant to
let her go b/c she had been through a very traumatic first adoption and still
had stitches and a eye infection. With a visit to Dr. Mangat her eye infection
was gone shortly and I brought her home and ever since she has had so much fun!
I've renamed her to Athena.
She is such a bundle of energy and loves to play with our puppy but she is the
alpha in the family. She gets the pillows on the bed at night, she rarely likes
to share with the puppy.
They've been best buddies for almost a year now and whenever they are separated
Athena cries out for him until he comes back. I think she has picked up some dog
habits and passed some cat habits onto the puppy.
I know you were very fond of Athena and were scared to let her go so I thought I
should let you know that you gave her to a good home that she loves very much!
I've attached some pictures for you to see how big she has gotten! She was very
small when I adopted her and now she is just as big as our pup! About 15 lbs.
Thanks for trusting me with her and all the good work you do!

Goldie

Just an update on how wonderful our girl is doing. Goldie will be 1 year old in April and we wanted to drop a line and tell you that after a rather rocky start she is getting along just fine. She's gotten to be a full 10 1/2 pounds, loves water (especially in my shower)-must have been an otter in a previous life ; 0 ) She really has become my best "Bud".
In the pic she is sharing her favorite chair with Blanche Bear. She's getting to be such a pretty girl. She loves it when the niece and the grand daughter and grand son come to visit. She likes to steal my granddaughters polly pocket dolls and run off with them and she's never far away from them playing on the fringes.
Thank you again for getting us together. You do such great work.
Again thanks and best wishes,
Goldie and Goldie's mom and dad
Jerry and Suki

I just had to forward you the most precious picture of my boys, because it is just too cute (I think Suki is looking a lot slimmer!). Hope all is going well. I can't tell you how much happier I am with my boys in my life. Thank you so much for everything.

Casey
Hello, my name is Sarah-Anne Ginson. In September I adopted a calico kitten from you, named Rachael, one of your most beloved and difficult to part with. I renamed her Casey. She had some health issues with a cold, ear infection but now is healthy and happy. She is so beautiful and very much loved. She is a part of everything we do and is growing to be an amazing cat. Her personality is just as beautiful as she is.
She loves to play with her huge scratching post, enjoys chasing balls, loves to cuddle with us, and is just so full of life and brings so much happiness to us everyday. She is one spoiled little girl and she most certainly deserves it. Thanks to you, we have a wonderful addition to our life who will be cherished forever. She has grown a lot. I attached a couple of recent photos. You are most welcome to put the pictures on your site and let people know that she is one of your happy tails.

Molly and Beasley
Molly and Beasley were so lucky when they found their new forever mom, Jodi. They were adopted together and that was just what we had all been hoping for. Beasley loves Molly and had been her protector when they were strays, and during their stay with Action. Now they have a large home to play in, tons of toys, and Beasley has even shunned his shy ways and comes for cuddles with his new mom. They were surrendered to us by an elderly couple who had rescued them and were caring for them, but when the manager of their building found out, they were forced to surrender them. Beasley spent the first month or so serenading Jodi at night, but he seems to have grown out of that now. And Molly continues to be on her quest for the coldest tap water, and catching her feather toy. They are well loved, and we are tickled pink! Thank you for the photos Jodi, keep them coming!

"Dusty then....."
Dusty was rescued, along with his siblings, from a burned out drug house in Maple Ridge. He had suffered through 10 days of being in a smoke filled house with no food or water. Two dedicated volunteers went into the wreck of a house when other rescue groups had simply refused. Dusty was taken to the vet clinic and required oxygen therapy. We watched him carefully for a couple of months after to ensure there was no brain damage. Thankfully, after a slow recovery Dusty began to come out of his shell, and became the little going concern that he is today.
"Dusty now....."

Dusty now has a home with other siblings and has grown up to be a strapping young lad. One of the Action volunteers fell in love with him, shortly after becoming involved with Action. Dusty was one lucky boy when Lorraine walked into his life. After such a rough start in life it is amazing to see this little one's progress. Thank you Lorraine for providing our little Dusty with a wonderful loving home.
