Action for Animals is proud to announce our newest program......
Seniors for Seniors
Are you a senior 60 or over that is missing the love and companionship of a cat? Action for Animals can assist you in fostering a senior pet in your home. All you have to do is provide roof over their head and much needed love and attention. We do the rest. If you choose to foster a senior cat Action will provide you with the following;
- cat food
- cat litter
- transportation of pet to appointments
- veterinary costs
- first right to adopt
We have already placed seniors with seniors and the program is working wonderfully. There are many people who never thought that they would have the joy of having a cat again and we are able to help them with companionship and a loyal friend. If you have any further questions regarding this program please do not hesitate to contact us.
Pets help fight loneliness (As seen in the
Burnaby Newsleader)
Nov 10 2006
Action for Animals, a
not-for-profit organization with volunteers throughout British Columbia, places
stray, surrendered, abandoned or abused mature pets with senior citizens and has
seen first-hand the benefits of bringing these two groups together.
The society currently has
many healthy, mature animals ready for adoption and hopes that seniors in the
Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley will open their doors and their hearts to give
these animals another chance of a forever home.
It has been well
documented how animals help fight off feelings of loneliness and depression
among the elderly. They provide comfort, companionship and a sense of purpose.
For many senior citizens, having a loving pet is a reason to get up in the
morning.
"Everybody loves the
kittens and the puppies, but what happens when the animal grows up and isn't so
cute any more?" asks Nikki Forbes, president of Action for Animals.
"The same analogy can
be used to describe the situation many senior citizens are left in: they are
lonely, depressed and feel unloved or unlovable. A pet provides wonderful
companionship and loves indiscriminately and without judgment."
The society has rescued
animals from Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey, North Vancouver, Delta, Port Moody and
beyond and has had great success finding these abandoned or abused animals new
homes with local seniors.
Many seniors may be
concerned about the cost of caring for a pet. Action for Animals, which receives
no government funding and relies on individual and corporate donations, will
provide for all of the pets' needs, including transport to and from veterinary
appointments, food and other necessitates.
