I would like to thank everyone that attended and assisted with the launching of Buster's Winter Folly on the evening of October 23rd/2014.  The event was fabulous held in an old restored mansion donated to our cause of helping the animals by the owner.  The venue was spectacular and added a touch of elegance to our evening.  The catering was done by Mr. Mom's World catering, and the food was fantastic.  We had a lot of laughs, and there were times I came close to tears, having a dream realized is a wonderful thing.  Having one's friends, colleagues and supporters with them to celebrate it, means even more.  Of course glasses were raised many times to Buster, without his appearance in my life I would never have been inspired to do what I am doing with this book.

This book has led me on a journey, one that has my mind jostling around with ideas for other books.   When I made my speech on the night of the launch, I directed the first portion of it to my wonderful Buster, and then the remainder to those who work in rescue.  I will post the speech below if any of you are interested in reading it.  Buster is the catalyst in my life to keep me motivated on trying to help the abandoned neglected, abused and tortured.  I came to realize the other day though, so many people talk about statistics about children that abuse animals growing up to commit violent crimes against humanity.   I realized that actually there is another take on that.  If we cannot fix the problem of homelessness and the atrocities committed against these animals, how will we ever solve the problem of homelessness when it comes to humans?  Humans are far more complex than animals.  It seems to me that there are so many people working so hard to solve these problems when in reality what we are doing is putting bandaids on situations.  Rescuing those we can, only to have 10 more show up at our front door.  Please don't take that the wrong way.  We need those people working on the front lines putting those bandaids on until we can as a society come together and with compassion learn how to take care of the situations.  We must look at it like peeling an onion.  Get the the root of the problem and work from there.  And as I said a few sentences back, if we cannot take care of the animals, how do we expect to be able to help and care for the humans that are in distress?  I think we have had it backwards all these years.  Fix the problem with the animals, and learn from that, and then fix the problem with the homelessness facing humans;the bullying, the addictions, the illnesses, all of it.  One baby step at a time.  The two are definitely intertwined.   I will never see this all completed in my lifetime, but as the Dalai Lama has said, we need to teach children mindfulness, one child at a time.  It is time for compassionate education in our school systems.
