Frequently Asked Questions

When was Kitty Kompany Established?

Kitty Kompany was started in September of 2002.  I have always had a problem locating quality pet sitters for my two senior cats in the past and recognized pet sitting as an opportunity to combine my love of pets with a strong business background.

What areas does Kitty Kompany Service?

We are currently servicing New Westminster, Burnaby, most of Coquitlam, Delta, and Port Moody, portions of Port Coquitlam and we are currently expanding into Surrey.. If you have questions about  the territory please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Does Kitty Kompany only take care of cats?

No...birds, bunnies, fish, dogs, pocket pets...we take care of them all!

Will your company come and visit our pets every other day?

No, as a professional service we carry a specialized insurance policy that covers the care and custody of your pets while you are away.  Don't forget too that while you are away we are also caring for your home.  Christmas 2008 we had a home that had a natural gas leak.  Had we only been visiting every other day, there is a good chance something terrible could have happened to the home, not to mention the cats could have very easily have died from the toxins.

Can Kitty Kompany provide us with references?

Yes!  When we arrive at your home for the initial consultation, we will share our portfolio with you.  Included are reference letters,  business license, copy of insurance papers, membership certificates and most importantly, pictures of our fur kids and fur-clients.

How much does the initial consultation cost?

The initial consultation is free, lasting approximately 1/2 - 3/4 hour.  This gives us  time to meet and greet your pet, and for you to make a decision on whether you would like to hire us to care for your pet.

Is there a contract to fill out?

Yes.  We will fill out a detailed contract during the initial consultation.  This contract provides us with information about your pet, from medical, to favorite toys.

When do I give you my keys?

Keys should be provided at the time the contract is signed.  If a second trip to your home is required to pick up keys there will be a $15 dollar charge.

How do I know that my keys are safe in your possession?

All keys are tagged and coded with your pet's names.  This way should they ever be stolen there is no way the thief would know where your home is.  Contracts are left at home so a thief could not cross reference your keys with my contract.

Can I leave my keys on file with Kitty Kompany?

Yes! Keys may be left in the custody of Kitty Kompany.  While keys are in our possession at home, they will be stored in a lock box.  This is a good idea for business travelers, people that have to work late on a regular basis, of course for daily dog walking.  Although Kitty Kompany requires 1 week's notice for pet sitting,  we understand that there are emergencies that may arise.  Having your keys on file will assist you in concentrating on the emergency, rather than how to arrange to get the keys to us.

Can I leave my keys with a neighbor or relative?

No.  Keys must be handed directly to a Kitty Kompany representative.  When factoring in other people there is always a chance that they may forget that we are coming for the keys, or may loose them themselves.   Keys are never to be left in mailboxes or under front door mats.

Do my pets have to have up to date vaccinations?

All dogs must have up to date vaccinations.  Outdoor cats or cats that have been outdoors in the past 24 months must also have been vaccinated. Strictly indoor cats do not require vaccines to qualify for care.

My dog has been known to be quite aggressive and has bitten before will you still care for him?

No. We will not be able to care for aggressive pets.  As the owner you are responsible to disclose whether your pet has ever bitten anyone in the past.  If so, we must take our own safety, and the safety of others into consideration, and we would have to decline the job.

Does my dog have to be on a leash at all times?

Yes!  All dog walking dates are done on leash.  This ensures that your pet will not run away and consequently be injured or lost.  Our liability insurance requires that all dogs are kept on a leash.

How many dogs do you walk at the same time?

Currently we provide one on one service to our clients.  If, however, you have two or three dogs living with you, we will walk them together.  During the summer when it is busier dogs may be walked in no larger group than 3.

What are your rates, and why are they not posted?

We prefer that you give us a call at (604) 521-1202.  This gives us the opportunity to review your location, and needs in order to provide you with an accurate quote.

Do you require a deposit for your services?

Yes!  Clients are required to give a 50% deposit (non-refundable) on any services.

How can we pay you?

Currently Kitty Kompany is only able to accept cash, check, Visa or Mastercard.    50% deposit is required at the time of the initial consultation.  The remaining 50% is to be left for us on the first day that the pet sit commences.  Daily dog walking will be invoiced on a monthly basis. If you would prefer to pay by visa or mastercard we would be very happy if we were provided the entire amount up front.  The fees are very hard on a small business but we feel it's important to be able to offer this service to you. If you have to cancel and you have paid in full we are happy to refund the 50% remainder.

What happens if me pet becomes ill while I'm away?

During the initial consultation session you will be required to fill out and sign a veterinary release form.  This authorizes us to take your pet for veterinary care in your absence.  All bills will be paid by yourself upon your return home.  Pets will only be taken to the vet if it is deemed serious or an emergency. We will always attempt to contact the owners anytime a pet is ill.

Is Kitty Kompany Bonded and Insured?

Yes! Kitty Kompany is bonded and insured through carrying both liability and an extended dishonesty bond.  After all we understand that not only are you trusting us with your fur babies you are also inviting us into your home.  Proper proof of bond and insurance will be shared with you at the time of the consultation.
